Data source & methodology
FixSignal is an independent commercial data product. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the City of Syracuse.
Official source
FixSignal reads the City of Syracuse Code Violations_V2 dataset through its public ArcGIS FeatureServer. The City states that the data covers code violations from 2017 to the present and is updated daily.

Fields intentionally excluded
The source can contain names, mailing details and inspector identifiers. FixSignal does not request or publish owner names, owner home/mailing addresses, `issued_to` details or inspector IDs because they are not needed to demonstrate product value.
Classification
FixSignal uses deterministic keyword rules to group official wording into contractor-friendly trades. The original text is always displayed beside our plain-language summary. Classification can be imperfect and is not legal, engineering, licensing or safety advice.
Current groups cover outdoor work, cleanouts, roofing and exterior work, structural conditions, paint and lead-safe work, windows and doors, stairs and decks, interior surfaces, plumbing and water, electrical, HVAC, fire and life safety, pest control and general property compliance. Records that do not meet a specific rule remain visibly labeled as general signals instead of being forced into a trade.
Review priority
The “Best timing first” view is a transparent review aid, not a prediction of who will buy. It assigns more weight to a specific trade match, a recent record, an approaching comply-by date and related conditions at the same property. Users can see the reasons behind each score and can switch to chronological sorting.
Property briefings and source records
The default radar groups records with the same normalized street address and ZIP into one property briefing. This reduces repeated review when one property has several relevant conditions. Grouping does not merge, discard or rewrite the underlying City records: every record ID, trade classification, official wording and date remains available in the briefing, and users can switch to the source-record view at any time.
Coverage counts
Neighborhood and ZIP totals are aggregate counts from the same open Syracuse dataset. Nearby Onondaga County communities shown as “demand tracking” are planned markets, not live record coverage. FixSignal will not label a new market live until its official source, fields and update cadence have been verified.
What a signal means
A record may indicate a property condition and a possible need for work. It does not mean the owner asked for a quote, consented to marketing, has a budget or will hire a contractor. FixSignal never guarantees jobs, close rates or exclusivity.
Corrections and official status
FixSignal caches results for performance, so the City source remains authoritative. Users should follow the official dataset link before relying on a status or deadline. To flag a product classification or display issue, use the support page and include the FixSignal record ID.
